Chesapeake Bay Bugeye - Edith F. Todd
The plans for this model of the Chesapeake Bay Bugeye
are found in the book by V. R. Grimwood. In the book, this boat is described:
"The story of the origin of the bugeye might be appropriately entitled "How the
Oyster Built a Boat." Just a the whale was responsible for the creation and
perfection of the New England whaleboat and its gear, so the oyster was
responsible for the evolution of the bugeye. The only matter with which the
oyster was not concerned was the choice of the name bugeye for this type of
craft." Actually, no one knows the origin of the name. This is an interesting
and actually a very pretty boat, just the right size for a mantel piece.
